LIBYA: CRED CALLS FOR THE IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF THE INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERS OF THE GLOBAL SUMUD CONVOY

As of 11 June 2026, eleven international volunteers associated with the Global Sumud humanitarian convoy in solidarity with Gaza are reportedly still being held in eastern Libya. Ten were detained near Sirte on 24 May 2026, while an additional Tunisian volunteer is being held in a related case.

The volunteers come from Argentina, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, Uruguay, and the United States. Among them are two Italian citizens: Domenico Centrone and Leonarda Alberizia.

Amnesty International and other human rights organizations have raised concerns that the detention may be arbitrary, citing restrictions on access to families and lawyers, prolonged isolation, and concerns regarding the detainees' physical and psychological well-being. According to the organizers, some volunteers have undertaken hunger strikes in protest.
